About
My name is Margeaux Davis. I'm a soft toy designer, doll maker and illustrator living on the far north coast of New South Wales, Australia.
I find inspiration everywhere; old folk tales, song lyrics, children's stories, and of course, the natural world. I've always loved anything old or natural or from another time, and anything that just seems a bit magical or evokes a sense of nostalgia. I think that's beautiful. When my children were very young, I made them some soft toys. My first creations were a whale, bunny and a moth. These first stuffed toy attempts were pretty wonky and made from old clothes, but they were loved. I think a big part of their appeal for my boys was that they were made by their mother. |
So now, several years and many prototypes later, I've created sewing patterns for my soft toy designs, so that other children can enjoy a toy made by someone who loves them.
I am also now illustrating (and writing) children's picture books, which is an absolute dream come true. My latest book ''What Stars are For', was published by Affirm Press earlier this year.
My professional background is in environmental education, working as a National Parks ranger; talking, writing and thinking about the natural world. I now spend my days drawing, painting and sewing from my tiny garden studio, surrounded by macadamia nut farms and cow paddocks, on the far north coast of New South Wales, Australia.
